I needed to spread my risk, so I opened a new company.
I recently opened a new web marketing agency, and I already own
two design agencies
that specialize in the area of brochure design, along with other
things. All my companies combined are making very good money,
even in this uncertain economic time. I think it’s wise to have
as many businesses as possible, so that even if one of them is
troubled, you have others to back you up.
This general approach is all about spreading your risk around.
If I only had a web marketing agency, I would be in great danger
every time that industry went through a dry period, but with my
design agencies, I can always focus on brochure design when web
design is struggling. It allows me to have a lot more comfort
and relax better.
Overall I’m glad I decided to expand with my web marketing
agency. Brochure design was a great field, and my design
agencies have been doing very well, but it’s interesting to work
in a new area and see how much more money I can make. Web design
is going to be important going forward, and brochure design will
always be important as well, so I think these businesses are
pretty complimentary, and I have no fear about competing with
myself.
With all these businesses currently growing and prospering, I
may soon decide to open a new business, and spread my risk even
wider.
